From the Tide Keepers Collection — Art for those who believe thriving ecosystems are built through connection.

Diversity is an original mixed-media coral reef artwork from the Tide Keepers collection by Dawn Leigh. Created from thousands of hand-cut pieces of reclaimed paper layered with translucent acrylic paint, the work celebrates the extraordinary abundance of life found within a healthy marine ecosystem.

In Diversity, a coral reef becomes a gathering place for many forms of marine life—each distinct, yet sharing and depending upon the same environment. Fish move among coral, anemones, and layered forms, creating a visual ecosystem in which individuality and interdependence exist side by side. The work celebrates the strength and beauty that emerge when many different lives thrive together.

Built through Dawn Leigh's “painting with scissors” process, the composition is constructed from reclaimed magazine pages and repurposed papers selected for their color, texture, pattern, and fragments of imagery. From across the room, the individual pieces resolve into a vibrant reef. Move closer, and the illusion gives way to hundreds of visible fragments, each retaining something of its original identity while becoming part of a larger whole.

Diversity also became an important turning point within Tide Keepers. Exploring the relationships within this reef led to a deeper investigation of California's kelp forests and helped inspire Guardians of the Kelp Forest, Dawn Leigh's ocean-literacy initiative selected as a BLUE THREAD project for the UNESCO Ocean Literacy Portal.

A statement piece for collectors drawn to marine ecosystems, environmental stewardship, intricate craftsmanship, and artwork that rewards both distant viewing and close exploration.
